called Geronimo. The real (deceased) Geronimo was sent to the Soviet Union as an exhibition display during the Bicentennial. Legend says that he was the lead steer for a cattle drive from George West to Fort Worth (about 400 miles) and then the steer returned home afterwards on his own.

And ours was a real live little old man, who lived near where our high school was being built. He would come by to watch and after a while, he was a fixture.

We made him our mascot and he showed up at football games and the like.

He was way cool!

within 20 miles of me-- Fayetteville, Springdale, and Decatur (Arkansas). It was fun to listen to radio broadcasts of the Springdale-Fayetteville games... "And the Bulldogs have the ball on the Bulldogs' 40 yard line..."

My school got PC after I graduated and did away with him for some sort of predatory bird. So be it.

Charlie was carved by Barney West a Sausalito institution.

My partner's high school just before his time was "The Pekin Chinks" - Pekin Illinois.
Yes you read that right. Now they are the Dragons.

Of course my partner's freeper sister was one of the people protesting changing the name.

Some things never change. Always on the wrong side of history. She doesn't think we should be allowed to be married either even though she supposedly loves us to death.

of Savannah High in Savannah, Georgia. When my dad came back from Vietnam, the Air Force assigned him to command the radar station that was all that remained of former Hunter Air Force base in Savannah and that's where I went for my final two years of high school. I'm not sure what Blue Jacket meant but I have a hazy recollection that it was some kind of blue bumble bee (instead of a yellow jacket). I really didn't pay much attention to such things in high school. I was mainly into growing my hair long and playing electric guitar. I didn't involve myself in any school team spirit activities, never attended a football or basketball game, never went to a pep rally, dance, prom, or homecoming, didn't belong to any school clubs, and didn't care at all about being popular.
