It's a big day for my wife Susan and I in a way - and in other ways, just like the previous 34 X 365 days (which the calculator says is 12,410 days). For some crazy reason, this really pretty girl agreed to marry this often loud, clutzy, no-idea-what-he-wants-do-be-when-he-grows-up, possibly permanent grad student. We had a justice of the peace, just a small group of my friends attend (if we tried to do a church thing, her catholic parents and my protestant parents would not have agreed on anything), and sneaked into the college chapel for the "service" (which was over in the blink of an eye).
We met at a local hospital nurse-sponsored party with the grad students. She was the first person I saw when I walked in the door (it was a party I did not want to attend - I was just dumped unceremoniously by someone else). We finally talked while standing in line for beer (it took half an hour of watching her and picking out just the right time to get in line!). We talked, danced a bit, and the party ended - she gave me her number. We soon started dating.
We started out enjoying music, hiking, cooking, movies - our tastes are so similar. Somehow we fell in love and decided we were each other's favorite people.
Today we woke up, had some home made raisin nut toast with honey and coffee. She went out to work out, I went to Trader Joe. Right now she is quilting, I am trying to sort out what's ahead for me with my book finally becoming available next week - and doing this. Three cats and two dogs are snoozing around us. Tonight we will go to our favorite Indian restaurant.
No need to make a bigger deal out of today for either of us than it is - just another day where both of us feel very lucky to have met each other. Believe me - every day I wake up and recognize how fortunate I am.

(54,397 posts)We had to hold our wedding on neutral ground, too, as the three sets of parents were Catholic (my wife's), Shinto Buddhist (my brother's wife's), and nothing at all (ours). Luckily, all our parents were cool with the whole thing. Luckily, our (my brother's and my) parents spoke neither German nor Japanese, and our inlaws' parents spoke only German (my wife's) and Japanese (my brother's wife's).
So you are fans of Indian food, too. Way to go! Our little town outside Düsseldorf had no Indian place until a few weeks ago, when one finally opened here--finally, and it's even good!
