My dog will get into the play position with the stray cat, but the stray looks at her like she's nuts...but the stray does accept her and doesn't run away from, or attack my dog.

However, our previous dog (RIP), was not to be left alone with cats.

Years ago we had a golden retriever mutt that would play with the kitty
who would hide under the bed. They were so cute together: paws
and nose coming out from under the dust ruffle and paws and nose
poking in under the bed.

Then there's the time my cat met a fully grown, very large lab, blew up into a puffer fish of hissing and spitting, launched himself upon the poor dog with claws and teeth until I beat him off with a broom and locked him in my bedroom, where he proceeded to growl, yowl, and throw himself at the door until I took the dog outside...too late, because she'd already peed herself and the floor.
