New foster cats. *Pic heavy*

We've had a few overnighters, but the following have been here for at least a week or will be for a couple weeks coming.

This is Rosebud(Rosie) - she's been dealing with a little cold, so we've been getting her medicated and back on her feet. She has a forever home waiting for her and will be leaving us this Saturday.

This is Denny, although we're not 100% sure of her name. We'll see how her personality is, and name her properly. She seems nice enough, but has a tendancy to hiss at the other cats. The others are fairly unimpressed by her attempts at dominance!

[IMG][/IMG]

This is Carrie. She has a couple issues we're giving her meds for and she's making a good recovery.

[IMG][/IMG]

and last, but certainly not least, Jersey Girl. She's about 10-12 weeks old and was brought home due to an upper respiratory infection. She didn't seem sick at all when we brought her home. She was full of piss and vinegar and ready to play and make friends. Nonetheless to be safe we kept her separate from the other cats. After 24 hours we let her loose, and she's taken full advantage. She loves running and playing with our young Poe(newly adopted, about 4 months old)

Jersey naps with her buddy close by.

Here's Jersey's first hour here. Poe is the little paws on the other side of the door wanting to play.

And of course we have our permanent, very tolerant 3 who don't mind our guests for the most part. And our dog, she's slightly annoyed, but we're making sure she's not forgotten either.

The lady who had him cried when she gave him up, as she had done such good work with him.

I often think of her and am grateful for her putting her heart on the line, as well as the time and energy she offered.

You foster kitty parents are just wonderful.

...and it isn't easy giving them up sometimes. The older ones are easier, but the kittens, wow, talk about tough. They get ingrained in our life and with our own cats and we feel horrible having to break them and their fun up.
But we have seen them all go to good homes and the people who adopt all send us updates with pictures as their new cats settled into their lives and that makes it a little easier and very worthwhile.

It seems really quiet around here!

Of course we miss them, but that's the little part of fostering that is painful. The joys make up for it, and knowing you are making a difference in some little lives.

I was supposed to only keep them about a week, so that the smaller two kittens could make weight. But then all the kittens came down with a contagious virus and they ended up staying 8 weeks, and the mom an extra week (moms deserve a rest after raising their families). It was Calicivirus, so best that they weren't at the shelter with it. Distemper shots include immunization against this virus, so Mom didn't get sick, but the kittens were quite sick for a few days there, and then they were on meds for 10 days, and a return to the vet for the all clear, etc.

I actually find it is easier to give up the kittens, because demand for them is high and they are usually adopted inside of a week, and most of the time in a day or two of being ready. The adults usually have to wait a longer time for the right person to come along, so I feel more sorry for them. But yeah they are so cute and cuddly and think you are their momma or daddy, so...

Also, were these kittens ever READY to go! They were finding more ways to be naughty every day at almost three months old. I will remember that next time I have to return some 8-9 week olds.

I love cats: have eight in the house and five outdoor cats that I feed and make accommodations for in inclement weather.

Hat's off to you! I'd never be able to foster a fur baby because I'd never be able to give them up. I must be a sucker an fall head over heels in love with furry critters as soon as they spend a night in my home with me.

Love the video. There's something hilarious about a cat arm coming under a door whether anything is there to pounce on it or not. It just looks so funny.

It is a really fun thing to do. We get to know new cats all the time, figure out their personalities, habits(good & bad).
We nurse them when they are ill, so that they are adoptable.

It's also been interesting to talk to people about adoptions and I've been slightly surprised how many people want older cats. Obviously this is a great thing.

One lady my wife met at an adoption event last week wanted an older cat 8+ years. She had just put her 15 year old down and the woman is admittedly getting older herself, so she explained to my wife that she wanted a cat that would not likely live longer than her as she didn't want to burden anyone with an animal after she dies. Very nice thinking.

Hard part, having to let go. We do get to know them well, and they are generally pretty quick to ingrain themselves into our lives and routines. It's not unusual for me to go from the bedroom down the stairs to the kitchen for my morning coffee without saying hello to at least 4-5 cats! LOL

Plus we have 3 of our own, and our dog, so we are careful to make sure they are getting as much attention as possible, almost like we want to assure them that they are staying, they are ours!(or theirs as cats would prefer it!)

This is Poe, our newest addition. He's about 6 months old now.

This is Chloe, we welcomed her home last year...

[IMG][/IMG]

This is Pumpkin, she's our matriarch, been with us for 15 years.
She wasn't thrilled when we had some rats come live with us for a year, but she managed.
[IMG][/IMG]

And finally, Sandy, she's 8 years old and is a most patient dog with all the cats in and out of the house. She triess to play with them occasionally, but just minds her own business for the most part.
