but I think it's important to comment carefully in General Discussion. I am still cautious of my comments in there. At times a simple wording choice can cause others to misconstrue your intent and then they get offended. Just observe for awhile to get the overall tenor of the discussion before jumping in with both feet.

In the Lounge, everyone is very welcoming. Don't be afraid to jump in here. There are a lot of what seem like "inside jokes", but it's just that we have heard them so many times. Don't be afraid to ask when you don't understand the references. Kittens are quite popular here! (I am a "dog" person, though. LOL)

Hope to see you often, James.

please think before you post and read it over to see if it sounds like an insult. Try to stay on the issue and leave any personality out of it.

Now - welcome to DU - hope you have a long stay.
Tradition is a party at the new person's house next saturday night. These folks in the Lounge are kind of persnickety about their beer. We can be there @7.

(kidding of course - these folks will swill anything)
( no I meant kidding about the party)

The most important thing to know about DU is to bring ice for the Lounge because we're always running out and you'll need a helmet and pads for the General Discussion Forum.

DU has a wealth of smaller groups from cooking& baking to pets to LGBT, to health issues to addiction and recovery, so look around and add some to your subscriptions.

You have a lot of company, both Aspies and Sanders supporters.

Just watch out about that Green stuff. Advocating for another party here is verboten.

above advice as to the greens is valid.
this IS the DEM underground and folks can be a bit touchy--actually very touchy....

develop a thick skin-folks here are passionate.

shop around to the various groups-all kinds of stuff here.
the lounge is a nice place to get your feet wet.
a must place to check out is the state groups-gives a more local flavor

some state groups are more active than others-hope your state group is a good one.
