One of my sons has two cats--siblings--that he adopted from the shelter a year ago. Yesterday he told me that he just filled out the paperwork to return one of them to the shelter because he just won't stop chewing cables--electrical and computer. The cat been checked by the vet and offered cat grass and chew toys. Pepper and green apple concoctions have been tried. Being shocked from chewing live wires hasn't deterred him. He's a really sweet cat but my son is at his wit's end and afraid the house will burn down from chewed wires. Any ideas out there to keep this kitty from going back?

(15,090 posts)It's a bad environment for a chewer because my son is a musician with lots of computers--wires all over the place. I going to see if we can cat proof our place enough to add the cat to our household.

I'd ask if he's teething but since he was adopted a year ago that's not likely. I had a kitten chew through phone wires once, back in the Ma Bell days. My phone went dead and I had no idea why. The Phone Co. sent out a technician FOR FREE. The guy picked up the (very) frayed cord and said "I think this is your problem." :-P
