He was a customer at the book store I used to work in. At first I was completely in awe of him--he was BOB of Bob & Ray. Over the years I grew comfortable enough to start telling HIM jokes--one was the brazillion one, I believe.
In 2008 the store closed & I lost my job. My phone rang one afternoon & it was him. He called to wish me well. A couple of years ago he sent me a little note. He is truly a nice man.

Did you ever see it?

I loved it...Chris Elliott played an adult newspaper boy, still living at home with his parents
Bob Elliott played his father; and every line he uttered was hilarious!

It only lasted one season, unfortunately, but I thought it was funny.
The one show I remember was when he bought a cheap watch for $150 which was supposed to be waterproof, but it dissolved when he tried to wear it in the shower.

Chris Elliott has been on many TV shows and has starred in many movies, including Cabin Boy, Quick Change and, my favorite, Groundhog Day, in which he played the TV cameraman.

Chris Elliott's daughter, Abby Elliott, is a former cast member on Saturday Night Live

Bob Elliott is now 91

I remember the one where Chris had ordered one of those 'submarines' from the back of a comic book and it finally arrived 20 years later. So he and his dad set it up in the bathroom in a sealed up shower stall that filled up to the ceiling with water. As usual, Chris died at the end of the episode.

Are we talking about the same sit-com?..I don't remember that.

Did you see the episode where Bob Elliott took his son Chris & his idiot friend camping?
Bob deliberately took off early the next morning & left Chris & his pal alone in the woods, (so he could do some quiet fishing)
Chris & friend ate some psychoactive berries & began to hallucinate, then it gets really weird.
That one was a gem.

So I guess 'as usual' is incorrect. Should have said something like 'as was often the case.'

Nor did I know there were 35 episodes.

Some day I'll buy the complete collection on DVD

I think it was a well-written, very funny sit-com.

A mumbly mouthed book reviewer who leads The Webley Webster Players and they reenact scenes from the books he reviews. But all the scenes are about pirates, even "Cinderella".

Where the male contestant gets words like "chrysanthemum" and comments like "Did you want to leave it at that?" And the female contestant gets words like "far", and whispered help from Bob. If that one comes up while I'm driving, I usually have to pull over.

I think it was Carnegie Hall and it was about 25 or 30 years ago. They performed a ton of their bits on-stage in the style of a radio show, with sound-effects men. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
