(59,078 posts)He was a very good character at first. I guess he serves a good example of what can happen when you're in survival mode 24/7.

When has Shane shown good character?

(53,410 posts)He's a great character you can learn to love to hate. He makes tension palpable and is so on the edge that you fear he'll go nuts and start killing the living people. His character really adds a great deal to the story.

(18,497 posts)He's a boil that needs to be lanced before he kills somebody else to save his sniveling, weasel ass.

(53,410 posts)And I think the actor is playing it to perfection. We all hate him. Shane's character is what keeps us all nervous and on edge about what he's going to do next. He's a seething, smoldering volcano waiting to erupt and destroy the landscape. It's the character that crosses the line and adds a great deal of tension and makes us wonder how far we would go to survive and to protect loved ones. His is the character that brings out the extreme dangers of the new world and makes it real for us. Not only the dangers of the zombie hoards but of what can happen to people when faced with a stark need to survive. If his character is killed off it would be much harder for the small group to continue surviving.
I'm just reacting to a story with a good plot and believable and complex characters.

(and probably for throwing up the morning-after pills...)

and btw my name is Lori. Not often you see that exact spelling.

(56,828 posts)I was the geeky team scorekeeper in high school, so I'd be responsible for calling the boys & girls basketball games into the local newspaper after the game was over. There was one girl on the team that was Lori, and there was another that was Laurie. And, I'd be the one that got ripped a new one if the paper ever spelled either name wrong.

(18,497 posts)Good thing you also didn't have a Lorrie or one of the varieties then. I went through grade school with a Lori with the same spelling AND the same last initial. I ended up the one referred to by a last name which was okay because it was much better than her last name. Mines Scottish and ends with a vowel. Hers sounded like a rotten vegetable from a foreign planet that mutates brains.

(1,569 posts)That Shane lived to leave the first campsite was a spoiler--he didn't in the graphic novel the show is based on. In other words, the character has lived on much longer than he did in the comic book. My son, a huge fan of both the show and the written/drawn versions, loves that the writers both remain true to the "feel" and have the freedom to adjust the plotlines.
There was some pretty stark and not-too-subtle imagery in last week's episode--Shane watching the solo walker wandering through the fields pretty much foretold that Shane would not be successful (perhaps not even try) in finding a way to stay a part of the group.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)the same way he did in the comic?
SWIPE for SPOILERS:
In the comic, Shane & Rick fight and Shane is winning, only to have Carl shoot & kill Shane.

(56,828 posts)That the actor playing Shane (Jon Bernthal?) was auditioning for a major part in another weekly series, thus indicating that he was likely done with The Walking Dead.
But, still that was a big gaffe.

(56,828 posts)HBO is releasing Season 1 of A Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray next week and you can get it at amazon.com or Best Buy for $34.99 for the 10 episode season. I'd say the AMC price is very steep. HBO has some moderately well known stars in it as well (Sean Bean from Lord of the Rings and Lena Headey from 300 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)
Granted, the list price for AGoT is $79.99 and amazon.com is marking it down to $34.99. They could do a similar markdown for The Walking Dead.
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)That seems oddly steep.
on edit
Guess it comes with the head? If it came with Darryl I might consider it.
