The clinic is especially quiet today.

If anyone wants anecdotal evidence, at least, of that 5.9% unemployment rate, and a decrease in the homeless population, this is it.

Yesterday was an odd one, too. The morning was slammed, and the afternoon was slow.

Hey, if I had to pack up and leave because there were no more homeless to treat, I'd be fine with that.

Thank you, President Obama!...

I work there every Friday when the homeless clinic is closed.

They're always slammed over there...

OK. 'doc,' what's 'good,' normal, average blood sugar #? Had blood drawn yesterday for my doc, for various reasons, and while I didn't get the #, they/he says 'slightly high, so watch carbs + exrercise etc.') Tested today after lunch with one of those finger things my friend has, and it was 116. Will I survive???

Same crowd at my doc's lab yesterday as you, slammed in the morning so I returned later when the wait (for blood draw) was only a few minutes.

If so, then 116 is normal (70-120 is optimal for diabetic patients).

If not, then it's a little elevated. Non-diabetic patients should have a blood sugar around 100 or so...

they now call 'Impaired Fasting Glucose'.

Did you undergo a lab test called Hemoglobin A1C? Normal is a reading of 5.5% or below. 6.5% is full-blown diabetes. 5.6% to 6.4% is Impaired Fasting Glucose.
