I have been a Floridian on and off all my life and there is one thing that I have come to understand;

Sooner or later, every body of water larger than a mud puddle will have an alligator in it.

Yes they will climb chain link fences or dig under them.

They get into spots you can't believe they could.

If they are too big, they can't pull themselves up.

If they are too small, they don't seem to bother, though I could be wrong on this point.

on Interstate 75 running between Naples and Fort Lauderdale. The road is aptly named Alligator Alley.

The "Tamiami Trail" - the road that crosses the Glades south of I 75.

Used to see them alongside the road and even crossing it all the time.

Edit to add that both highways have undercrossings for wildlife though.

It takes me too far south.
