Frank Sinatra appreciation thread

Let's talk about Ol' Blue Eyes, the greatest big band/pop singer! One of the musical giants of the 20th Century, he had a popularity that was equalled only by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson. My Way is one of the greatest songs ever recorded! Any other fans!?

I'd also like to say that I think he was as good a movie actor as he was singer--a natural. Lots of singers tried to become movie stars--but none succeeded like he did. His two best films? *Manchurian Candidate*--of course...and *Some Came Running*, a very underrated film...

a way to go to match his record. The other performers have all expressed their admiration for Mr.Sinatra. Mr. Sinatra's elocution was superb, you hear every syllable in every word he sings. When he sings a song he normally would sing the complete song. This is especially true when he sang song from Broadway shows. He would also always give the complete song writing credits from stage. He made a point of always mentioning the lyricist and composer.

Mel Torme. Sinatra in the early years not bad, Sinatra in the later years okay. Torme in the early years not bad, Torme in the later years great.

One of Mel Torme's first films, Higher and Higher, included a small role by some guy from Hoboken NJ. Wonder if the kid ever made it in the film and singing business.

If he had the "cool" and sex appeal of Sinatra, he would have been the more popular one.

If I had to pick a favorite Sinatra song, I'd probably go with "Summer Wind." Amazing vocal interpretation, brilliant lyrics, and a jaw-dropping Nelson Riddle musical arrangement......

Bing Crosby and Al Jolson?

My Son In Law is a huge Sinatra fan. I will leave it to him.

....so that leaves out Beatles, Michael Jackson and Elvis as contenders.

Al Jolson is a contender, yes. He was the most popular singer of his era. Better vocalist? Hmmmm.

Bing? Also a contender.

Sinatra's appeal was his cool demeanor. Cool to the bone. And his phrasing, of course, which is attributed to Dorsey's coaching.
