(135,425 posts)but this kind of thing--snark, or snarking at stupidity, or whatever it is--is very offensive to people who come from a south-west asian or middle eastern culture that wears turban or keffiyeh.
It's just not cool.

(29,414 posts)The OP not only misspelled the proper word, but posted what many of us found rather offensive to begin with. That is, assuming one should be in fear of something you do not understand or recognize, such as people wearing turbans and adorned wtih an appropriated symbol now used by ISIS.
Seeing as I live in Houston, and we have a huge population of people from both India and the Middle East, I have nothing but respect for them living here and likely having to put up with low-information and fearful idiots. I do see people in turbans from time to time, and think absolutely nothing of it. Unlike how the writer of that OP seems to come across with regards to the same people.

And this is a real minority population in this country, that has been terribly misunderstood and stereotyped.
I don't have a good feeling when I read this stuff.

(29,414 posts)For example, this particular post, that got plenty of serious reply questioning their stance on people that wear turbans and such symbols.
That member is coming across at least as someone meaning to bait us, and not debate us.

(29,414 posts)and I agree with you. That thread needs to be self-deleted, just for the fact that the poster is rather bigoted.

(10,575 posts)During World War II, Lake changed her trademark peek-a-boo hairstyle at the urging of the government to encourage women working in war industry factories to adopt more practical, safer hairstyles.[11] Although the change helped to decrease accidents involving women getting their hair caught in machinery, doing so may have damaged Lake's career.[12][13] She also became a popular pin-up girl for soldiers during World War II and traveled throughout the United States to raise money for war bonds.[13]
