Unmarried men go into hiding to avoid leap day marriage proposals

http://newsthump.com/2012/02/29/unmarried-men-go-into-hiding-to-avoid-leap-day-marriage-proposals/

The nation’s unmarried men have all left for work early this morning, and won’t be back till after midnight in an attempt to avoid leap day marriage proposals.

February 29th has seen a record number of men in the office before sunrise, all with plans to “maybe have a quick one after work” until well into March 1st.

“I nearly got caught out in 2008”, said Martin Upson from Sheffield. “I was at home in the evening and my girlfriend got down on one knee and said she had something to ask me.

“I thought she was just doing up her laces. It was only when she took out this little box that I twigged and locked myself in the bathroom pretending to have diarrhoea for five hours.”

If he'd said "no", she'd likely have broken up with him. Chan790 Feb 2012 #2

At least I'm upfront about it, I'm not getting married because I don't believe one should make such a commitment. All human relationships are impermanent and should be so; one should be free and legally-unencumbered to leave if the relationship no longer meets their needs.

It seems like an actual insult toward her, rather than a preference to remain single.

Maybe I should be using The Onion in LBN if you guys are going to fall for this one.

I hadn't heard of NewsThump, but now I know. Don't intentionally try to deceive people in LBN, that could get nasty. The lounge makes us sort of gullible.

....after all, some people try and use the Daily Fail as a source on DU, and quite frankly you'd get far less made up nonsense in The Onion then the Daily Fail.

Unrecc'd for the sexist idea that women are crazy to marry and men don't want to!

Marriage is a patriarchal institution benefitting men! So there!
