There's a creature stuck between the walls of my home. What to do?

It sounds like a bird. I can hear it fluttering every once in a while. I figure if it was a squirrel it would be able to climb out. Should I just let it die. We have plaster walls so I don't think it'll smell. And I think the only way to get it out would be to tear off the wall.

Unless you want to bung holes in the walls, I wouldn't worry about it.

I had scratching sounds in my walls at night. Then I discovered I had rats. Cost me $350 to get a pest control guy to come and kill them. He killed 14 in traps and I don't know how many others with rat poison. All I know is it is peaceful at night now.

But I just pounded on the wall and it's silent. So it's either dead of found his way out.

14. That is what I would do.

I doubt that it is dead. I would hear the scratching sounds and I would pound on the wall and it was silent for a while. If I were you, I would call a pest control company to check it out.

Of course you do...

I was living in a trailer in a trailer park that was being demoed for a city building. So they were demoing one trailer at a time. So I start hearing scratching under my sink. So thinking it was a mouse I put out a trap.

So one night as I'm laying on my couch watching TV I hear a snap. "I got one!" As I walk up and lean over the trap I realize I'm looking at a BIG FUCKING RAT! WREE WREE WREE. So I jump and think what to do next. I grab something to stab it with. And just before I do it jumps up and runs off!

After that I told myself that it hopefully told its friends that I was a homicidal maniac and to stay away from my trailer. That's what I told myself until I moved out a few weeks later.

My girlfriend is terrified of rats and wouldn't let me tell her that story. So glad I can finally share it.

9. Wanna hear my mouse story?

I bag a lot of mice every year. So this fall I looked under my sink and see a mouse caught in a trap. But it only came down on it's tail and he was still alive. So what do do with the little guy? I picked him up and put him in the trashcan outside. After a while I started feeling sorry for him so I went outside to let him go. Well, the wind knocked the trashcan over and he escaped. I found him frozen to death a few days later.

11. Glad you shared your story. It is similar to mine.

I live in a mobile home and there is construction behind me in what used to be another mobile home park. I think it drove all the rats to my house. Well, I was not about to try to kill these little bastards on my own. The S.O.B.s chewed the wires in my house and cost me over $500 to fix. That's when I called a pest control person and I am glad I did.

since I actually cut a hole in my wall to allow a bird to get out. But then again, I could not have lived with myself if I listened to it until it died.

For disclosure, I used to be a wildlife rehabber, so there was no question what I would do.

20. I would have done the same if I knew it was a bird, but I knew my problem was rats.

And I am an animal lover. In fact, I am also a vegetarian. But when it comes to rats chewing my wires and costing me hundreds of dollars, those critters signed their death warrant.

21. I know. I would not tolerate rats in the house,

or mice, or termites. I think that is about it. I determined it was a bird before putting a hole in the wall though. Rats and mice would have moved over time. This critter didn't, it was stuck between the studs and the only way out would have been up, but there was no room to fly up. You could hear the fluttering noise. Poor thing. But it sure was in good enough shape when that hole opened.....a comedy act if there had been a video camera.

I did have to get a Hav-a-Heart trap for a squirrel one time that got in the house. That is another critter that I do not want living IN the house. (I don't think he was thrilled either.)
