power outage for 2 hours last night..we get just enough outages to make having a good battery lantern worth the price.
Any suggestions about quality/value/long life?

(12,029 posts)We bought one for emergencies, and it was so wonderful we bought a bunch more as gifts. They're almost weightless and pack down really thin. For power outages or camping, this one is terrific.

It's amazing how much light some of the small LED flashlights put out. I have a little NEBO Redline that I found out in a swamp that some hunter lost. If I set it at "floodlight", it will light up the whole room almost as well as my old Coleman fluorescent lantern. Probably cheaper to operate, too. 3 AAA vs. 2 of the big lantern batteries. Granted the latter tend to last a little longer. It's only 4 or 5 inches long. Running the more-focused beam through a jug of water would likely be even brighter. That flashlight was a lucky find!
