So Jim Hall invented the Chaparral 2J. Everything Jim Hall built into his Chaparrals was decades ahead of its time. The 2J got banned, too.

The 2J - and yes those are vacuum fans on the back of the car.

a couple of snowmobile engines. They were powerful enough, that the car could go 40 mph with just the fans alone.

The classic American iconoclast inventor. That Chevy gave him those factory built racing engines helped, too.
