(24,029 posts)I'm a nurse practitioner in a pediatric office, so we see lice from time to time, and withing 5 minutes, all of us are itchy - totally psychosomatic.

(131,067 posts)LONG hair, and repeated applications of that stuff, with the little comb. Pain in the neck bonding time.

(45,850 posts)I finally found the trick it was Vaseline, really put the stuff in her hair leave it for 15 minutes comb through and wash out - now that part got dicey had to use dawn for the first rinse
I was pregnant with my youngest at the time and hesitant for any of us to be exposed to all that inecticide

(131,067 posts)She was born in '85, was in 'school' at the time. Her hair was SO long and wavy, took YEARS to do the combing.

(30,947 posts)on Miami Beach and I caught head lice while I was there. She immediately took me out of the school. The best cure in those days (the 1940s) was to douse the hair with kerosene. It worked but really stunk.

Other bugs can do it for me too. I saw a hobo spider in my room earlier and anytime I felt any sensation on my skin, I frantically brushed myself off.

(35,712 posts)I do it with mosquitoes! I think I'm bit and 20" later I will check the same site on my arm or wherever and ....nada!

(4,473 posts)I have direct, personal experience of bed bugs. I have not experienced head lice.

(28,394 posts)I had a student in my homeroom one year who was always being sent home for head lice. I started using Scalpicin and even went to the doctor to have my head checked. It nearly drove me crazy. The kid moved and my itching disappeared.

(22,165 posts)Aside from the horror of dealing with thick curly waste length hair .... I would wake up at night scratching ....I checked my scalp daily for TWO YEARS
(probably doesn't speak well of my mental health ... but is nonetheless true)
