My friend Tom in college was going home to Chicago to watch his uncle run the Chicago Marathon. The day before the marathon, his uncle tripped over a curb and broke his ankle. The bib was already paid for so Tom said "Fuck it", got up the next morning having never run a marathon or practiced for it, ran the Chicago Marathon, got home in the afternoon...his family assumed he'd just gone to visit friends or something and never asked. The only reason we know Tom ran the marathon was because his feet blistered (among other physical ailments...apparently it's chafing-hell on your crotch and nipples if you're not wearing the right gear and using petroleum jelly) and his girlfriend asked "What happened to your feet?"

"Oh, I ran the Chicago Marathon on Uncle _____ bib after he broke his ankle."
