Two things

One - wut happened to the Lounge? I return to a morgue after a year away from DU

Two - Why do people come into the quiet parts of the library to have nice, loud discussions when there is a fine coffee shop on the first floor? Why do people block or charge into elevators as soon as the doors open, preventing anyone who wants to exit from doing so, and thus making room for the Trampling Wildebeest Millions to actually get in?

Yes, it can be overcome with maturity, training, mindfulness, etc etc etc, but we are selfish at our deepest level. Selfish = we care firstly about our family, our children, our friends, ourselves.

I do my best not to be "overly" selfish.

But here in the lounge, people are serious about those things.

So yuck it up, but let's try to tighten up too ay?

I am old enough to remember the days before stereo. In those days it was High Fidelity.

I've got some old vinyl LPs from Zenith that were designed to demonstrate high fidelity.

so stereo was the standard by the time I was a kid. I have reviewed very High-End audio components, and some music - for the last 19 years for two still-existing magazines and one website.

9. The reason I ask is.......

my 41 year old Sansui amp-receiver quit on me Saturday evening. When it quit there was a smell of old paper.

Our Saturday evening music is essential.

My brother rescued me by providing me with his similarly aged Marantz. But, as he explained to me, the controls are dirty. Are they ever! It seldom plays both right and left and sometimes the volume control has little effect. It is often noisy on the channel that is having problems. Sometimes it plays perfectly.

I want a new amp. I do not know a thing about the new ones. Do you know of a home size amp to suggest? Maybe that is a stupid question.

We loved our old Sansui. None of us know where we could get these old amps worked on.

or the forum at Audiogon and ask around. There are plenty of people who work on and know old audio gear. I prefer tubes - yes, tubes - and anyone who can work on tubes can work on 1970s solid state stuff.

Some of that gear was built like a battleship. It's worth fixing up. Wish I still had my 1972-era Marantz 2270 sometimes.

That put a big damper on it for me. Still funny and good people here, but it has slowed down a lot.
