Now I am wishing that they wouldn't cancel "True Blood"

For the last 7 years this has been my favorite decadent TV watching and I have been a faithful fan. However starting around season #4 the show started to 'Jump the Shark' so to speak. Too many storylines and too many characters you just didn't give a rat's ass about. So much time focused on couples that didn't work like giving serious storylines to Arlene and Terry, who really had nothing to do with the Vampires. I found that when I would do my yearly binge of watching all the TB seasons that sometime around season #4 I would fastforward thru about 50% of the show because it did absolutely nothing to enhance the main storylines of the season.

So when they said this year was to be the last year I think for many of us fans we expected it and felt it was probably for the best.

So what do the writers do - they give us one of the best seasons ever! The storylines are tight and all of them pretty much focus on the core storyline of Vampires dying because of the Hep-V released into general vampire population. They even found a way to bring back favorites like Hoyt (who I have missed so much and finally returned to Bon Temp last night). They even made Arlene one of my favorite characters this season and trust me, I have spent seasons complaining about the time wasted with Arlene storylines. Arlene always worked best when she was part of the main storyline line (like season #1 when her fiance Rene was a serial killer offing the 'fangbangers' and season #2 when her and Terry were the leaders of the humans under the Maenad's control).

I know all good things come to an end but heck if they could write create another great season like this one I'd be happy to see it extended. Everything is working right this season with the only thing not working is Lettie Mae having visions of her deceased daughter Tara (which I hate how she was just killed so suddenly in the show).

1. Midway through season 4 I realized I was bored and I stopped caring about any of the characters.

I totally gave up on True Blood shortly after season 5 began. Too bad, really. I enjoyed the first three seasons a lot.

They went back to the way it use to be - some great stuff this season.

They simply lost their way. Sounds like they found it again in season seven, but I doubt I will return to the fold.

4. There's good in season #4-#6, you just have to fast forward thru much of it

They did good with hooking up Sookie & Eric in season #4 but I fast forwarded thru anything with Terry/Arlene storyline. They started off with trying to do something with the Were-Panthers in the beginning of season #4 but after 3 weeks I think the writers realized they were totally ruining Jason and did make-up for that bad Jason storyline with Jason hooking up with his best friend's gal Vamp Jessica.

Season #5 was one of the worst even though they paired up the absolutely best True Blood Couple - Russell Edgington and Steve Newlin.

There was nothing redeeming about season #6 - it was just beyond awful. That scene were Eric turned the governor's daughter into a vampire came across something pulled out of a bad romance novel (really, what 18 year old girl sleeps in a lacy white gown style lingerie that is typical worn by a bride on her wedding night?). And they wasted so much time with the werewolves - it was just awful. Sure Alcide had a great connection with Sookie. But without Sookie he came across as an asswipe.

By now I"ve seen all 6 seasons so I figured I'd stick it out for season #7 and glad I did. Just about everything flows perfectly and there are very few errant storylines that do not feed into the main storyline. It's worth the watching again!

I just melted.

They could build a series around the adventures of Russell Edgington and Steve Newlin but unfortunately both have been staked.

11. I'm not really digging the whole Tara/Lettie Mae stuff

And kinda feel it's a waste of Lafayette's time. I mean they built this great relationship betweeen LaLa and James (Jessica's vampire boyfriend) and last night all we saw was 2 minutes of Lettie Mae and Lala digging up someone's front yard.

Maybe there is a big payoff but I'd rather see Lafayette hang out more with James.

Still love the show and am especially loving this final season!! I do appreciate greatly how they are bringing back some favorite characters -- Hoyt, Dr. Ludwig -- and how they did some fun back story action (Ginger being Eric's sexless sex slave being my favorite).

As for Tara -- be patient. They are working towards something big. I suspect it may have something to do with what the True Death really is or isn't. There are a whole slew of people looking at/dealing with death right now and what happens afterwards is a natural question -- Sarah Newlin's Christian/Buddhist hilarity was a prefect set-up. Bill is reviewing his life with his one true love -- what if there were an "afterlife" for vamps where he could meet his former family? Would he welcome the True Death in that case? Would it make him happy? I think that's where Tara's story line is going to come into play.

9. That Dr. Ludwig scene was pure precious True Blood campiness in all it's gloriness

I was laughing so hard when they showed this uber-sized Hummer driving up to Sookie's house, loud metal music booming from the radio. And out pops Dr. Ludwig, this dwarf of a woman (hey Niall called her a Dwarf). What was really funny was how Dr. Ludwig bragged about how absolutely nothing frightened her whatsoever that is until she heard that Sookie was Faery Royalty and a decedent of Niall.

That was classic and one of the best scenes all seasons in a season of great stuff.

BTW right behind that as a classic TB scene for last night's episode - when Pam stated the obvious - that the Yakamoto corporation wanted Eric to be the spokesperson for Vampire Jenny Craig.

I was always disappointed that we never saw her after that one episode. I certainly hope that they show us a "commercial" for New Blood -- the potential for TB awesomeness would be right up there with Russell Edgington's appearance with weather girl Tiffany.
