Yes, time for a somewhat more positive thread
This is a tough one, hmm...... For want of something competing for space in my head, I'll nominate this one:
ETA: Yes, I changed the title of the thread, makes more sense.

(78,249 posts)Alas, either her human's ex or an anti-choice fanatic pulled her leg off. We never did find out which. Had she made it, I would have become her human, as Velvet (this was in NOLA ) didn't want an indoor kitteh. Alas, she did not.

(27,247 posts)by Freda Pastor Berkowitz. Just from the description in the book, I recognized it right away when I heard it by chance on a local radio station. It's a really underrated symphony.
Another underrated, almost obscure, Beethoven "symphony" that I really like is "Wellington's Victory" or the "Battle Symphony", as performed by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Garfunkel....voice of an angel. I have one of his later CDs called "Everything Waits to be Noticed" which is good.

(23,547 posts)It has a special meaning to me the way songs do about a time in my life. Brings me a few tears thinking about it.

(28,552 posts)..... one of the Beatles' most heartfelt and sentimental songs.
But I could never choose just one, so i have offer up this one...

(21,046 posts)It's difficult but fun! Lots of moving parts and jazz chords. Those old pop songs (I'm including Rodgers & Hart here) have a complexity to them I find fascinating.

Joy Division, New Order, various covers...this song is pure emotion, hauntingly beautiful, maybe even sad to some, but I love it how it makes me feel....

High-energy, very upbeat and danceable Afropop track that I have played more than any other song in my long life. It sat on a cassette in my car for years. An instant cure for any kind of depression.
The great African singer Pepe Kalle, with his band Empire Bakuba. Take a listen, turn it up loud, and dance and dance.

(65,383 posts)I used to hurry home from high school each day to turn on the radio because it was very popular and therefore often played in the rotation.
I love a lot of the Beatles' songs, too, but listening to "The Sounds of Silence" was practically a religion for me when I was a teenager.
(BTW, I could also listen to the Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" over and over again.)
ON EDIT: Here are videos of the two songs:

(53,032 posts)I'm putting Patti Smith, "Because the Night," but in five minutes the answer will be something else.
Okay, less than five minutes. Maybe I should have picked the Pogues, "Fairytale of New York,"
Or Gloria
Or Caetano Veloso, Você é linda
Or Adriana Caconhoto, Mentiras
I could post dozens. I don't know how to pick.

(33,688 posts)right after the single came out I was driving down the freeway and damn near spun off the road because I was so blown away. And I was not a Patti fan at the time. Freaking amazing song.
