Unless you share your computer or are very worried about someone snooping in your stuff, there's really no reason to log out...I just stay logged in all the time!
Of course, you might have other issues.....

Also, there have been changes since you've been gone. Remember DU.1, and then changing to DU.2 on July 6, 2003? Well, this is DU.3, we moved here in December of 2011. That may be the reason things seem different...
