The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsLately, I can't get enough of The Cure
Such a great band of the 80s and 90s. I know they are still touring and I'd love to see them at least once in my lifetime although from what I have read it's pretty much whomever lead singer Robert Smith can round up and play as his backing band (Seriously The Cure without Robert Smith is unthinkable!).
At night to help me get to sleep at nights I usually play an album on my ipod with the buds in. It kills all the neighborhood sounds and the AC running. Usually by morning the buds will have fallen out of my ears. Last couple of nights I've been falling asleep to 'Disintegration' which is pretty their best album ever (and an album constantly in the top 10 for best album of the 80s).
Who else is big fans of The Cure!

(8,217 posts)I've been obsessed with "Just Like Heaven" and "Love Song" for a few months now.
Which I've been playing on my uke over and over.
They have a bunch of great songs, that I didn't know it was them who played.

(11,936 posts)Though that changes between Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin, depending on my mood that day.
I have a hard time choosing between Disintegration or Wish as my favorite album.

(27,120 posts)I've been lucky enough to see them a number of times.
First time was on the "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" tour.
One time, they were here in the summer (Phoenix) and it was about 500 degrees (outside concert).
They were in the middle of playing "Hot Hot Hot!" when one of the speakers burst into flames!!!!
At first, the band didn't notice, as the speaker was above the stage.
As the crew lowered it to deal with the problem, you could see Robert Smith do a double-take!
Good times!

(10,098 posts)Hey,
One of the bands I always seem to gravitate back to.
"Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
Peace

Where shall I start? Disintegration?

(95,337 posts)One of the best albums out of the 80s. I know some folks think "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" is better but I think KMKMKM is too perky compared to the darkness that is Disintegration.

(27,120 posts)But, yeah, if you want to start with a studio album I would recommend "Disintegration" first, then "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me."

(19,877 posts)My mom used to play it all the time, she was into 80's new wave and goth music. She also loved David Bowie.

(27,120 posts)Just as an excuse to bump this thread!
1. Fascination Street (Disintegration) - There's a reason why it got tons of airplay
2. The Perfect Girl (Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me) - The sunny side of the Cure
3. Hot Hot Hot!!! (Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me) - Robert Smith loves drugs and isn't shy about it, plus, fond concert memories.
4. Shake Dog Shake (The Top) - I don't know why, I just love it.
5. World In My Eyes (Cover of Depeche Mode) - Depeche Mode wrote a Cure song and didn't realize it.
6. One More Time (Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me) - One of the most romantic songs they ever did.
7. Shiver and Shake (Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me) - When Robert Smith hates someone, he really hates them. Great break-up tune.
8. In Between Days (The Head on the Door) - Pop perfection.
9. Boys Don't Cry (Boys Don't Cry) - Perfect song for when you blew it with the love of your life.
10. The Love Cats (Japanese Whispers) - One of the greatest love songs EVER!

(95,337 posts)I love the opening 2 songs from Disintegration - "Plainsong" and "Pictures of You". Two amazingly well done songs that gets a girl in the right mood!

(13,324 posts)Though I'm quite fond of 'The Head on the Door,' 'Pornography' (or most of it anyway) and what I've heard from 'Kiss Me etc. etc.' I also used to have 'Wish' and 'Bloodflowers' on CD back in high school, but I'm not sure how those two would hold up now.

(24,146 posts)and i'm in love with the head on the door. wish, for me at least, has held up reasonably well but i've always found bloodflowers to be hit and miss.
japanese whispers is another of my favorites.

(2,750 posts)While dating someone who LOVED that band. It is a fond memory of mine that will never leave.
Robert Smith got a bit pissed at someone on the front row that made a remark about his accent. He more or less stopped talking to the crowd after that
Still a wonderful night
