(24,931 posts)I've taken them for 20 years. The newer ones aren't so bad.

(21,691 posts)And my eyelids still look like I get punched fairly regularly (it's just bruising from the edema). Just the other day someone complimented me on my eyeshadow color. I don't wear makeup!

(24,931 posts)There were several times where I thought I was going to have an accident. Now I'm on the combo lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide. That's sooo much better.

(2,034 posts)now I take diltiazem & sotalol for blood pressure and rhythm control (I've had a couple bouts of afib recently), and hctz for edema. The hctz doesn't help much but it's better than nothing.
Just got back from a cardiac cath & MRI, in preparation for mitral valve repair or replacement.

(21,691 posts)I take 120 mg when I get up and 120 mg before I go to bed. I sleep through the night, completely dry. I'm a very unusual kidney patient; I have very low blood pressure and always have (I just had to reduce my Cozaar dosage because I was near-fainting so often) but the edema is pretty bad (and colorful, as noted above).

(13,421 posts)All in all, it did make me stay closer to the potty, but as far as side effects they were some of the easiest to adjust to. The one thing I do want to urge you to be wary about, is time in the sun. I walked a 4th of July parade when I was on them and I just about passed out from the heat/dehydration. I couldn't finish the parade route and ended up riding in the back of some guy's pick up truck slugging away on a bottle of water and waving like a fool.
