I think The Office is back!

The last few episodes have been very good, with tonight's episode easily the best of the season. It had that awkward humour that's been the hallmark of earlier seasons. I think the writers finally figured out that The Office couldn't survive if Andy is the focus of every episode and they FINALLY realized that Dwight and Jim are fully capable of carrying the show.

1. I stopped watching that show after the episode "Andy's Play".

The first episode of last season was good but after that it seemed like they stopped trying.

2. Good! It sounds like your perception of the show without Steve Carell is similar to mine.

I don't care for Andy or the goofy receptionist. I had hoped that Dwight would be the new boss because it would have created a lot of opportunities for Jim to mess with him. I haven't watched it in a while, but I'll check it out.

3. Dwight isn't the boss yet, but he's got his all-important ambition back

It seemed like the first half of the season that Dwight was just going through the motions. But now they sent him and Jim down to Florida for a while and Dwight has found that ambition which has driven him though all those early seasons.

5. Okay, that sounds good, because it's Dwight's sociopathic ambition that

sets him up so beautifully for Jim's pranks.

I've always been a fan of a lot of James Spader's work, but he doesn't fit in with this show. It was Dwight that I wanted to take Steve Carell's place.

I think they're missing the boat on not focusing more on the oddballs like Creed & Meredith. Also, I think the writers made a mistake in having Angela marry a state senator, because it took away her drive to act as Dwight's accomplice.

I figured Andy was given such a prominent role because, in real life, he was one of the show's writers. He & the receptionist are very annoying.

I love that show! I have watched it from the beginning---loved the X-mas party episode when Jim and Dwight were trying to one up each other and Jim falsified the picture of his kid---so funny!

but the pool party one was just god awful. When Andy wouldn't ask for his ring back it made me literally angry at how stupid and unfunny it was. I thought about quitting the show after that but I'm glad I didn't because the last few weeks have been good.
