Goose in Ten Toes (things heard wrong)

Amongst Lancashire farmers a goose was regarded as due to the farmhands for dinner on the 16th Sunday after Pentecost when the old prayer for the day concluded with "praestet esse intentos" The term for the benefit was "The Goose Intentos" eventually corrupted by the overwhelming majority of illiterate people as "The Goose In Ten Toes".

Tua nos, quaesumus, Domine, gratia
semper et praeveniat et sequatur,
ac bonis operibus iugiter praestet esse intentos.

Lord,
our help and guide,
make your love the foundation of our lives.
May our love for you express itself
in our eagerness to do good for others.
