(78,249 posts)the one near Liverpool, not "Jed Bartlet".
Speaking of New England, Boston Irish are not "fake Irish people" so stop saying that! Also, only a slice of western Connecticut is "white privilege". All the state's large cities have decent-sized African American and Latin@ populations.
Old people are farther south than that in Flori-duh. Similarly, Forrest Gump took place along Alabama's coastline, not inland. As Trof will testify, they're very different places.
Finally, Obama is from O'ahu, not Hawai'i (Big) Island. Other than that, it's hilarious!

And why is Manchester known for them?
Ron Obvious
(6,261 posts)Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Blackburn, and uhm Wigan to name just the most famous.
There's not a lot else to do in that area.

(50,566 posts)It's about and the beginning of the punk and rave scenes. It follows Tony Wilson, the guy behind The Hacienda (ground zero for raves) who brought us Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays (and who missed signing the Smiths).
Love those crazy Mancs!

(38,317 posts)... two are "failed" Hollywood actors who have some screen credits but got tired of living in poverty between jobs. (Maybe three failed actors if you count me. I washed out of Hollywood when I was five years old. I was only good for scowling at the camera whenever they wanted me to say something I didn't want to say.)
The California state stereotype is missing the lunatic right wingers. For every live-and-let-live naked gay guy on the streets of San Francisco there's several thousand bat-shit crazy right wing religious freak step-daughter molesters, Cliven Bundy racist millionaire commons destroying thieves, and corrupt diaper soiling chicken hawk military-industrial-complex fellators.
Not to mention Nixon or Reagan...

(20,176 posts)I lived briefly in Yonkers and my roommate was from Kingston. It's not my favorite place...it's like all the problems of urbanity in a town that looks like rural podunk. He used to lie and alternately tell people he was from Saugerties or "just outside Albany."
I'm now not between anything...I'm smack dab in "rich people."
(I'm not sure why the Gold Coast is "Swedish" though...there aren't a lot of Scandinavians there as a point-of-fact. Assholes? People that make the rest of CT's rich people look poor? Trains? Fake Ivy Grads? Yes, yes, yes, yes. Swedes? No.)

(8,636 posts)Years ago, I encountered an article stating that Rhode Island had more vampire stories coming out of the state than any other state in the union. Apprently, this was due to the fact that Rhode Island was established by religious dissenters and was more tolerant of religious diversity than other New England states.

(16,245 posts)I'd never thought any part of North Carolina was known for jazz music. Bluegrass, yes, but not jazz.

edit: also, some of the best jazz I ever heard was on NC A&T's radio station while I had a Greyhound layover in Greensboro.

(5,927 posts)...but I've always thought of him as musically being a Philadelphian. He went to Curtis.
That all might be arguable, but even if we give NC total credit for giving us Saint Coltrane, how the hell does England see NC as Jazz Music? Most curious.
Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh are huge contributors to jazz and yet the English said NC. Most curious.

(72,790 posts)I love how a lot of people think that everyone in CT is white, privileged and rich. So far from the truth.
When you go out of CT, and people ask where you're from, and you say CT, they're always like "oh, so you rich?" LOL
