Lately I've been thinking "global warming" is a fake.

I really do hope that I'm dead wrong, since it will cause terrible things to happen.

But starting next week, the temperatures will be in the low 40's and 30's here in Sheboygan.

And it's the last week of April, for crying out loud here in Wisconsin!

NOAA has predicted out around here it will be colder than normal!

I grew up as a GI brat and my favorite pit stop was Madison......I'd always pondered going back if I could ever retire but the winters just seem so erratic now.

Go out in the kitchen and put a pot of water on the stove. You might want to add a drop of vegetable dye. If you watch, the dye takes a long time to spread through a pan of cold water. Get a fresh pot, do it again, but this time put the pot on a low simmer. The dye will spread through the water at faster rate. Now, do it again, but this time put the pot on a high boil. You'll see the dye spread through the water almost instantly.

Gloal heating raises the overall temperature of the atmosphere, but it also speeds up the mixing of air currents. What we experienced this winter was a result of global warming as cold air from the North Pole was pushed down over the United States.

2) The past cold winter was caused by global warming. As the Arctic warms, its normal cold winter air mass splits and slides south.
3) All over the world, storms are bigger, heat waves are hotter, droughts are dryer, floods are deeper. The instability of the climate is causing extreme weather of all kinds all over the world.

But ask the Australians how their weather has been lately. Answer: Really, really hot.

Weather - what's happening outside your window today - and climate - weather trends over time in large areas - are two entirely different things. Oddly, the reason it was so cold in the Midwest this year is because it was abnormally warm in Alaska, causing the polar vortex to push the jet stream farther south. And it was abnormally warm in Alaska because the oceans are getting warmer because of global warming.

One other thing: This last winter, cold and unpleasant as it was, would have been a fairly typical winter in the '60s and '70s. I remember nonstop subzero days, some nights as cold as -30. The normal pattern was, right after Christmas it would go below zero and stay there except for a little warmup in late January. Then it would be wretchedly cold throughout February and snow like crazy through March. We began noticing the winters were getting less horrible in about 1990 or so.

I just did a Master's thesis on oxygen isotopes in calcium carbonate and I can see when temperatures rise and fall in the data.

I wish people would do just a little bit of research before questioning the scientific research behind global warming.

As the Polar ice caps melt sending volumes of fresh water into the oceans the risk of shutting down the ocean convection belts increases. No longer will warm air/water flow up to the poles and cool waters upwell near the Equator.

What could then happen is the polar regions expand greatly with deadly freezes and the Equator overheats to around a deadly 140 or so.

So warmer weather could mean much colder weather and much warmer weather.

How long will the Koch bros. get to keep this up?
