And I had no fucking idea! (Nothing on LBN, which was surprising.)
I only found out when she messaged me on FB (around 1:30 am today) about her power going out, and with her phone battery being low, we didn't get a long chat. I had to look it up on the NZ Herald, and MetService Weather. Not even a thing about it on Dr. Jeff Master's blog, which was another major surprise.
NZ is getting pounded by this storm, the remains of TC Ita, a Cat-4 storm that had hit Queensland. I guess it did the normal Coriolis effect, and looped south and east.
Have a look at the video link on the MetService site. The weatherman is a hoot!

(8,554 posts)cause that's where I first learned about the threat of Ita (unless this is a different cyclone you're talking about).

(29,414 posts)but no mention of NZ. I was rather surprised by that as he usually covers such things.

(29,414 posts)She was going to a friend's house to charge her phone again as her home power went out last night. I think she was planning on staying the night there, too, due to not being able to cook at her home, either. She did seem relatively at ease with it, though I could tell it was exciting for her, too. I know that feeling as well.
Hopefully, we'll chat again tonight, though it'll be after midnight my time due to the time difference

(72,300 posts)With a bit of good luck the heat of summer won't be so bad by then.

(29,414 posts)this summer isn't supposed to be as bad as laster year. We could still have drought conditions, but fewer tropical storms, which would be a plus
Now, a good thunderstorm, like what woke me up this morning and forced me to save and shut everything down on my computer before the power predictably went out for three seconds, I don't mind
