Part of the thrill of adolescence is dressing in ways that infuriate the older generations. This fad goes back way past the 1920's, for example, with "Oxford bags", all the way back to the 18th Century, and the outrageous fashions of the Macaroni Club.

If the people in question are older; older than, say 23 or 24, then it's just ridiculous. I had a patient the other day, 30 years old, and still wearing the waistband of his pants down to just above his knees, with a long t-shirt covering his groin and thighs. Watching him shuffle out of the exam room like that was a facepalm moment.

Same goes for the backwards baseball cap. If you're older than about 13, lose it.

"Turn your hat around. You can't possibly as stupid as that makes you look."

to get young people to stop doing something...

Get the old(er) people to do it too.

50+ years old oughta do it.

Hell...women too! I don't mind exposing the crack of my 61 year old ass if it's for a good cause!

Butt crack, undershorts--who cares. Plus these fellows trip over their cuffs and are constantly tugging at their waists. Better to forget the low riders and go back to normal. Much less stress and certainly better looking.

It started to represent what happens when one is put in jail - they take away your belt and your pants sag.
It was considered a mark of honor among gangbangers.

I have known and been friends with some real old school gangsters ( who at the time were not engaged in their former activities). Some of these guys were carrying around 2 or 3 bullets in their bodies that had never been removed, to avoid going to the hospital and being turned in.

It was all part of the world they were trapped in by racism and economic repression. Difficult and often impossible to get out of.

This is why I have to laugh when I see kids who will never have to go through any of this affecting that look.

In the eighties my good friend told a story about her brother from back in the fifties. The style was low slung jeans as well. He made a run at a low fence intending to jump it. Disaster endued. Wearing the crotch between his thighs didn't facilitate the ability to get his legs up to clear the rails. There was a notable accident.

Yes, an ugly and dangerous fashion risk, gentleman.

You're welcome.

The owner said he put it up because he was sick of customers coming in with saggy pants. The sign calls customers a gay slur if they choose to wear saggy
pants.
