Tub or shower?

Last edited Mon Apr 7, 2014, 04:19 PM - Edit history (1)

Need to solve a debate as to which is the more popular.

Thanks for your help.

Edited to add my debate concerns our future Guest Bath, not the whole house.

The only time I take a bath in a tub is if there is a health reason, like a muscle that I think will feel better if I put it in warm water. Otherwise, its all showers for me.

I'm drawing plans to build our new home and hubs thinks we need a tub in the guest bath but I disagree and think a big shower would be better. Yet he's the one who showers most of the time. And he's never cleaned a tub even when he's used it, so he doesn't realize what a pain it is to clean.

My points are: shower are easier to clean, easier to take too. Besides, I always shower when I'm a guest at someone's home, doesn't everyone?

but I would not put a tun in the guest bath.

We recently added a master bath to our room and only installed a shower. As long as one is in the house, in case it is needed for a medical issue or even just for random confort, its fine.

I would prefer a bath over a shower, but mobility issues make that nearly impossible, so...

it's shower all the time.

Our house has two 'full' bathrooms, in my 'opinion', but one only has a shower, not a tub, and it is listed on
Zillow as 1.5 baths. I've tried to get Zillow to change, but no go, so my thoughts are it must be because
there is no tub in the second one.

My house has the same deal. Main bathroom with tub/shower and the master bath only has the shower.

Checked Zillow and it's listed with two full baths...

Have you actually gotten a reply back from Zillow, or are your requests for change ignored?

Have you ever tried to sell your home? If so, maybe it's what the realtor listed it as, and that's the problem?

We tried selling back in 2010 and I believe it was actually listed by the realtor as two full baths

We're not trying to sell it so that's not a big issue. I just saw it and tried to fix it.

we gave up selling six months later. When I go to Zillow, the house and photos are still up, but we've done some remodeling since then. It bothers me that it shows the house as it was four years ago even though it's no longer for sale.

that, for listing purposes, bathrooms are categorized:

Full bath: sink, stool, tub, shower (either separate or in the tub)

3/4 bath: sink, stool, shower

1/2 bath: sink, stool

Strictly speaking, in all realtor lingo I've seen, a half bath is a toilet and a sink. Zillow is weird on this point.

And you know, if you ever have small children visiting, you'll need a tub.

And if the water goes off for sewer work or something like that, you need a tub to fill with water.

In the master bath. I love soaking once in awhile. We have a big one now, along with 2 other tubs which have only been used to shower in for the last 13 yrs.

We have a fegular size bathtub in the master bathroom, a shower in the guest bath and a shower in the downstairs bathroom. My two brothers each have houses with two bathrooms, upstairs and downstairs. All of those bathrooms have combination tub/showers. Frankly, I think you're on the right track.

My legs are always bent to some degree unless I want part of my torso out in the cold air...

Its just never felt "comfy" or relaxing. And the water gets cold too fast...

(clearly its showers-all-the-time for me too. I just don't get the bathtub logistics unless you have a king size tub).

I'm 6'3" and 240#. i don't fit in our tub. I had a family member who once had an indoor tub that was huge. It had the jets and was really nice. It took a long time to fill and it was a PITA to clean the soap residue. They did not use it much. My brother has a heated outdoor hot tub that they seem to use frequently.

We've owned this house for 14 years, and I've never been in the tub. The shower in the master bath is somewhat oversized. I'm never quite comfortable in a regular tub.

Japanese tubs are deep, and the water can be reheated. Cleaning the tub is no big deal because all of the washing and rinsing is done outside of the tub. They're 100X better than showers for relaxing.

Our old house had a 2 person whirlpool in the master, used 3 times in 9 years and took up a lot of real estate. Very expensive unmovable decoration.
