Dessil
Dessil is an ancient custom of walking thrice around a mother and newborn with fire in one's right hand. It takes power away from evil spirits who sometimes carry away unbaptized infants and "return them poor meagre skeletons and these infants are said to have voracious appetites, constantly craving for meat". The parents dig a grave in a field and lay the afflicted baby in it overnight, hoping their true infant will be returned.
