1. I figured Ferris was an imaginary brother, friend, boyfriend, and student.

Not real. Only a few people and the camera can truly "see" him.

This is all about repressed kids getting in big trouble on their own. But they are unable to fathom this (good kids gone bad!) and thus the spirit-creature Ferris enters their reality.

I'm certain there is all sorts of speculation like this on the internet, but I'm not going there.

(yes, I tried to avoid most mainstream movies in the 80s) and I was struck by how much that he was just a first class prick.
