.wav files are uncompressed audio - 16bit PCM 44100 Hz is the type of audio you'd get

It's the same quality as CDs so the only better is something like SACD or DVD-A

right off a CD. Much better than a compressed .mp3.
If they take up too much space you can do lossless compression on them to reduce them to about 50-60% of
their original size.

for which few people likely could tell the difference.
BTW, If the .wavs take up too much space you can do lossless compression on them to reduce them to about 50-60% of
their original size with no loss in quality. The most common lossless format is probably .flac.
