A family member has had a serious struggle with alcohol, but has had made great progress in recovery. We are thinking of not so much of a reward, but something to make her feel nice and that could make her smile again
We tossed around ideas such as a prepaid visit to a salon, but I just don't know about that.
DU help me
On edit: Our love is obviously the most we can ever give her. Something special would be great

(10,642 posts)but a trip to a spa would be a lovely idea: manicure, pedicure, massage, etc., a lot of pampering!
What a treat!
Best wishes to your family member!

(2,750 posts)We have one close by that looks great. They do makeup, facials, hand and foot care among other things. Depends on the package we buy.
She said she feels "ugly" since the facility will not allow makeup or ways to do her hair. Think all they allowed was shampoo and a brush.
We hated to put her in there but her last relapse was terrifying. She didn't know what planet she was on.

That's what always means the most to me, anyway! Save the treats for a milestone, like a month, or a year.

(35,015 posts)I'm thinking something meaningful and positive from her childhood, that when reminded she will feel really happy. You can choose to remind her in whatever way you wish; through a present and/or family time reminiscing.

Before all of this started she was a really good dancer, specifically tap. She also played violin.
I can possibly string her violin as well as getting some song books?

(4,465 posts)I think the spa idea sounds great since you said she feels ugly. Or you could buy her something cozy like a great soft blanket, or a new outfit. I think the spa idea is perfect though.
