(From Wikipedia)
According to Robert T. Garret of the Dallas Morning News,
Rafael Cruz suffered beatings and imprisonment for protesting the oppressive regime of the Cuban dictator Bautista.....He fought for communist revolutionary Fidel Castro in the Cuban Revolution when he was 14 years old, "but didn't know Castro was a communist"
A few years later he became a staunch critic of Castro when "the rebel leader took control and began seizing private property and suppressing dissent."
The elder Cruz fled Cuba in 1957 at the age of 18, landing in Austin, Texas.

(He fought for Castro "but didn't know he was a communist"?)

Trivia about Castro....When he was a kid, Fidel Castro once wrote FDR asking him to "please send me $10 green American"
