1. Happened to us....

not to that extent. But, here's the story.

We were deployed to the Mediterranean Sea on the USS Forrestal back in the early '70s. While there, we had a trans-ship exchange with some limeys off their carrier. Well, one of our birds broke down on their ship when they were scheduled to port in Malta. Apparently, American military ships can't go there, or even planes.

So, when we finally got our bird back a week or so later, the tail had been re-painted with RN colors.

2. Sounds like a plan to me.

If the plane had been Free Ireland, all hands on board would've wound up in Reading Gaol. Where the very mud cries out for blood to the thirsty asphalt ring. Or according to Oscar Wilde, anyway. That was the first poem of his I ever read. Instant fan. When I asked the lit teacher why Wilde wasn't taught in class, he stammered and said something vague about authors going out of style. As soon as I returned the book to the school library, it disappeared. A political execution. Later I found out why.
