Bacon cheeseburger, fries used to help rescue kitten

A little fast food helped with the rescue of a kitten along the San Antonio River.

"Rio" was apparently found wet and shivering in some bushes along the River Walk. Animal Care Services says a Good Samaritan used a bacon cheeseburger and fries to lure the scared kitten out of the bushes.

We caught up with the kitty Thursday and found out she already has a foster family to take her in.

"It's a neat opportunity to have the chance to help her recover, find her forever family," said foster mom Rhonda Weis

ACS says she will have to gain a bit of weight before she can be adopted to her forever family.Bacon cheeseburger, fries used to help rescue kitten

Don't let all of this "adorableness" fool you. There is a HUGE problem still in existence in animal overpopulation in San Antonio.

There has been a move since 2005 to try to improve the city's kill rate and I do believe that things are better than they were, but they are NOT what ACS tries to portray to the public. There are still mass euthanizations at times when there are empty cages - something rescue groups can't quite understand and have yet to get answers to from Kathy Davis, the ACS director.

And let me be very clear here - ANY forward movement in this city has been done on the backs of private rescuers who put their hearts and souls and hard earned dollars into trying to save just one more. ACS has been given a huge budget over the last few years and has very little to show for it, except some shiny new buildings that are "supposed" to make things better.

It is my hope that little Rio is one of the lucky ones, but I wish they were ALL lucky.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a 'downer' to your upbeat post, but the truth needs to get out there. I've lived in San Antonio for decades. It is amazing to me the difference between what I see in the media, and what I know to be reality.
