I believe that Fats sold more records in the 1950s than anyone not named Elvis. Fats' recording career dates back to 1949's 'The Fat Man.'
He tends to rarely leave his beloved New Orleans these days but does make local appearances from time to time from what I understand.

in the Lower Ninth Ward. It was in one of the first MLK Day Parades. I was among the few white people there, if not the only one. I could tell it was Fats' house because it was emblazoned with giant stars and the initials "FD".
