Please do not ask me to name 4 things, describe & explain the 4 things, pick one of the 4 things and explain WHY I picked that one thing in 300 words or less or you get a penalty and then give me a crappy mark because I "didn't really expand on why" I picked that one thing. I HAD NO MORE WORDS LEFT. ARGH!

(82,333 posts)It would make more sense if it WAS an exercise in brevity for a writing class, wouldn't it?
This class is Anthropology - taking it as an elective. I've received 100% on every assignment except this one. She's really sticky about staying under 300 words, which I find odd since every other class I have has papers 4-6 pages long due every week. Trying to fit all the requirements she has into 300 words is hard, but she's always given me good marks until now. I just thought it was really odd for her to tell me to expand on something and take marks away for it.

2. Royalty
3. Sex
4. Mystery
The prize-winning essay read:
"My God," said the Queen, "I'm pregnant. I wonder who did it!"

(3,922 posts)Don't ask me why. It's a useless degree unless one goes to grad school for anthropology (which I am currently in).

(3,922 posts)But the demand for this field is very, very low. I absolutely love archaeology, but the type of archaeology that's done in the US isn't what I imagined it would be, unless you have a PhD. If I could do it all over again, I'd probably go into public history.

(10,624 posts)to figure out the ancestry of those hobbits from Flores. That's a fascinating mystery to me. Some think they evolved from Erectus, but other features are more primitive. I can read about stuff like that for days.

(8,646 posts)Title of the class is 'world prehistory'. Fascinating stuff. LOVE evolution and the human spread around the world. Next chapter is origins of food production, which I also find interesting. Wish I had more time and money, I'd get a few more degrees!

(8,646 posts)I really really like the class except for the idiotic assignment requirement of 'less than 300 words'. I'd love to get a BA in something - anything. Poli Sci, Sociology, anthropology...I've taken all those as electives and love all of them. But I went 'sensible' and I'm almost finished a Bcom with a major in accounting. Just a couple more electives and a business statistics course and J'ai fini!
