Darwin Eve is the night before Darwin Day.
Charles Darwin, one of the greatest naturalists, co-discoverer of natural selection (along with Alfred Russel Wallace), and author of many books, was born on February 12, 1809 (as was Abraham Lincoln).
One reason I like to celebrate Darwin is that the fundies can't stand him. They have tried to censor Darwin's ideas, and toward that end they have striven to promote ignorance in high-school biology courses. They're still at it, but their efforts grow feebler every time a court decision comes down against them. Let's also celebrate those court decisions!

I also second your idea about celebrating the court decisions that uphold his ideas. Our children deserve nothing less than the truth, and the courts agree.
