The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMrScorpio thought that he'd give it a try, starting an OP written in 3rd person narrative
He didn't give it much hope to receive a lot of replies. After all, many of his other novelty threads died an early death, dropping into that pit of oblivion with nary a reply. Would others find it interesting enough to add their own replies in the third person narrative, thus taking the direction of the posts in fascinating and even humorous ways? Why, who knows?
The Lounge's denizens are, if anything, quite a fickle lot. Sometimes taking to a thread, while other times not even caring to add their own distinctive oeuvres to a particular subject. Unless, that subject had to do with tried and true subjects, like beer, cats and a particular obsession of certain chain restaurants.
Leaving a post, his plan was to do what he did always, and leave a post and allow it to either develop into a conversation or just let it die its natural demise. There's no point in trying to force a particular subject on people who found it either too boring or unremarkable to reply, he thought.
But you can never tell with this lot. Even though the folks in the Lounge aren't as eager to post replies as those are in GD or LBN, sometimes a Lounge post does take off. Whatever sparks those times that posts there take to flame, MrScorpio wished that he could harness the formula. He liked having conversations with the Loungers, even if they weren't always up to the task.

(62,444 posts)Loungers often have the attention span of a cat and in fact are usually attracted to the next shiny object before they fully absorb MrScorpio's meaning in his latest post. Over the years he has posted some fine music but that doesn't seem to hold the interest. Cat pictures perhaps? They seem to be the most stable and attractive commodity among Loungers.
The content of Scorpio's posts is among the best, often offering posts that truly challenge Loungers mental faculties. It is very hard to predict what will or won't make muster in the Lounge. Perhaps that is one of the most charming characteristics of the Lounge - agroup that can't be pigeon holed - where even the vaunted MFM was assailed a few times.

Who knows you ask. Why the Shadow knows, of course. Why not, because I said so, that's why not.

(8,217 posts)His name, which came from a Last name in a story world that lives in his own mind does not quite fit the format.
Then again, he notes that there are some idiots that think Obama's first name is Obama, where in a massive failure in their part, they had to ask on line, what is Obama's last name. Xyzse, heretofore has only been known with that moniker reveals that his first name starts with a "Y". Henceforth, for this post, and this post alone, he will refer to himself as the letter "Y".
Now that Y has taken care of his internal conflict about a 3rd person narrative, he can finally address the original purpose of this thread. He thinks about it, then thinks about it, writes a few more paragraphs......

Y erases a massive three thousand word reply and doesn't post it after all.
