Most of the time I call "Motley Crue" by the name Motley Crud.
Because I detest most of their tunes.
Including their biggest hit, "Cum On Feel The Noise."
But I like this song by them.

(66,409 posts)I've compiled nostalgia playlists on my iPod for every decade since the 1960's, and I want to download this song to put at the end of my 80's playlist. But I can't quite bring myself to put Madonna on my iPod, no matter the nostalgia value of the song itself (which was on the charts during an exciting time in my life.)

(8,217 posts)I stupidly fell for it due to the Chipmunks...
Then, I spent weeks... WEEKS, figuring this one out in the ukulele.
I think I have done a passable rendition of it, but still can't sing and play the damn thing due to how complicated it is in my head.

(20,176 posts)This was before the discovered I was completely tone-deaf.
We were supposed to learn two songs, then move on once everybody in the class had those two songs down to learn two more and two more, etc. The first semester class managed to learn 12 songs. My second semester class, halfway through the semester, was still on the 3rd and 4th songs (starting with "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Michael Row your Boat Ashore" , which were "Sloop John B" and "What's Going On?" by 4 Non-Blondes (which was odd because I'm pretty sure that one of them was an extremely-Aryan almost-white-haired blonde.) That was the point where Mrs. S, our music teacher, made Jay and I sing the songs while everybody else learned the guitar so that the class could move on.
My entire music class hated "Sloop John B" by the end of it. To this day, I've always gravitated to vocals despite not being able to sing worth a lick. Also, I find myself singing Sloop John B quietly to myself over and over and over when I'm bored.
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night
Got into a fight
Well I feel so broke up
I want to go home
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up
I wanna go home
The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff John Stone
Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
(hoist up the John B's sail)
Hoist up the John B
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home
The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why don't they let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home?

My tastes in music are such that I tend to like one song from any given group then learn that I hate most of the rest of their stuff. I can't think of a single artist for whom I love their body of work. I'm strange that way

(8,646 posts)So many people I know love the Cure but for some reason they were never my cup of tea. But Lovesong...I could listen to that song all day and never tire of it. And yes, I have Adele's version too. Just love that song.

(4,945 posts)Same goes for Buffalo Springfield with the exception of Stills' "Bluebird"
However, I like lots of Young's other work, along with that of Crosby in the Byrds and Nash in the Hollies.

(4,465 posts)I am not a fan of twangy country music -at all- I wouldn't even know about the song if I hadn't heard him sing it on the show The Voice. I hate that I like it so much but it's charming, and his voice is good, twang and all.
