We live in eastern Indiana and a bunch of folks just to the west of us have lost power. It's going to be a terrible night for something like that to happen. The temperature is supposed to drop sharply as the snow moves in. Tomorrow our expected high is negative 7. The local government has already issued a Level 2 weather advisory meaning that we're only allowed out on the road for essential travel. Level 3 means the only ones allowed out on the road are emergency personnel. I'm betting we'll go to that by morning.
We are pretty well prepared in the event of a a power outage. It would be nice to have a generator, but an event like this might only happen once every few years around here.
Work will likely be cancelled tomorrow. I drive for a living and also work outside of the truck for short periods. If we're under at least a Level 2 advisory they usually don't send us out of town. Other employees there work outside for long periods of time and it will just be too dangerous for that tomorrow.

(10,575 posts)Indiana's major electric utilities are reporting more than 40,000 power outages around the state while temperatures plunge well below zero.
The largest number of outages was in Indianapolis, where nearly 27,000 homes and businesses were reported without electricity Monday morning by Indianapolis Power & Light.
A couple thousand outages each were reported in the Terre Haute area and central Indiana's Tipton County.
Sunday's heavy snowfall and strong winds gusting to 35 mph at times have caused many tree limbs to come down on power lines.
