It's been nice being off (even though I've had the flu).
I'm trying to decide if I'm sick enough to stay home couple more days.
I'm dreading this new year. They significantly changed my job duties (to things I HATE to do), seriously demoralizing me. It's as if they want me to quit, but I don't really believe that's true. I think the way it was handled was atrocious and I am seriously pissed off about it.
I am planning on leaving as soon as I can; no doubt about that. What do they expect when they treat me this way? I've had a job I hated before. That isn't much fun at all and I'm not going to put up with it if I can avoid it.

Hope you're feeling better!

(53,410 posts)I work for UC Berkeley in administration. I loved it even if I didn't like some of my managers, but I could fix that by finding work in another department. I loved it because it's a beautiful campus and I love the students and I feel I'm contributing to the future in a truly significant way.
Now everything is different. They decided to take the jobs that every department have in common and send them many dozens of blocks away under the name of Campus Shared Services. they've torn every department apart doing this. We're next to a cement factory and other similar types of dirty businesses and crammed into cubicles. Gone is the beauty of the campus, the students and the faculty. We get to interact with them via the computer and we've been put under a metric system of measuring our work. It's very sad.

(16,245 posts)I blame efficiency "experts" for that sort of thing. I've been reading a lot on here about employment in this day and age and I suppose I should be happy to have a job in my field. And I am, more or less. I wonder, though, if I can make it to retirement without something worse happening. I work for the government and I have no intention of ever working in the private sector. As tough as it is sometimes, generally speaking, you are treated better. To a private employer, you are just an expense.
Still, it's a shame people get treated the way they do. And it's pretty much universal. There are very few employers I would ever want to work for.

(16,245 posts)I do have a plan, which helps. I don't know how long it will take, but sooner or later I will be gone from here. Which does give me hope.
New Year's Resolution for this coming year is to get a flu shot.

(16,245 posts)I have rekindled a relationship with the person I was with before I moved here. The long distance thing proved too difficult and he bailed. But we kept talking and I recently went to see him. Things went very well and we realized we still have feelings for each other.
I am either wanting to move back closer to him, or we will both find jobs in some third location. He is going to wait and see where I'll land. I actually applied for something quite close to where he is now that is right up my alley, but it doesn't close until February for some reason.
So I am very anxious for my "real life" to start. The wait seems interminable.

Actively look for something better but rise to the challenge facing you now. You will have no regrets.
