but to me Sarah Vaughan was and always will be the very greatest of the jazz singers. There will never be another like "Sassy", as they called her. What a voice.

By the way, it was John Malachi, the pianist on the OP, who gave Sarah Vaughan the nickname "Sassy". Malachi was well known among musicians, but not so much among the public, since he chose not to go on the road.

According to Wikipedia, "Malachi was fond of categorizing jazz pianists into acrobats and poets."

I'd say that Art Tatum was the greatest acrobat, and Bill Evans was one of the greatest poets. Just my opinion.
