The lyrics are nonsense, but just listen to her voice!
During the song, she mentions her fellow musicians:
John Malachi - piano
Joe Benjamin bass
Roy Haynes drums

Not a false note in the bunch. And she was obviously having a great time doing it.
Lucky us to have these recordings!
Thank you!

If you listened carefully, you might have noticed a quotation, i.e., part of another song slipped in when you least expected it.
What was the other song?

(21,925 posts)but to me Sarah Vaughan was and always will be the very greatest of the jazz singers. There will never be another like "Sassy", as they called her. What a voice.

(4,076 posts)By the way, it was John Malachi, the pianist on the OP, who gave Sarah Vaughan the nickname "Sassy". Malachi was well known among musicians, but not so much among the public, since he chose not to go on the road.
According to Wikipedia, "Malachi was fond of categorizing jazz pianists into acrobats and poets."

I'd say that Art Tatum was the greatest acrobat, and Bill Evans was one of the greatest poets. Just my opinion.
