(85,373 posts)You should see how they groom each other, and cuddle. Now, if he would just stop trying to make my old lady cats into hors d'oeuvres...

(81,527 posts)We got her from the local shelter after she'd been brought in off the street, she'd been pregnant, no idea what happened to the pups, but she was bleeding, starving, and her teets were hanging down. You could see every bone in her spine, every rib. Horrible. She was so weak! And she was scared and shell-shocked and probably had a case of canine postpartum depression, if such there be (wouldn't surprise me!). We brought her home and she took to the two cats we had as though they were surrogate kittens. WUNNNNNNNNderful!!! And when we brought the two kittens home a year later (litter mates, take 'em both - genuinely FABULOUS idea that we will do again when the opportunity arises!!!!) Goldie took to them also. Now one of them bosses her around all the time. Goldie is a shepherd mix - we usually say "shepherd something" - and she's just wonderful to those kitties!

(3,596 posts)such a loving bond.
I am so glad they required the two go together. It would have been criminal, given their circumstances, to separate them.

(2,674 posts)We were at a garage sale where there were kittens in a box. The lady conducting the sale said any kitten not given away were going to go the pound on Monday and that they were 8 weeks old. We took one and when we got home. we found it wasn't even weaned. Our little dog, Lucky. came in took over that little Kitten, she carried it round, if it meowed she was right there to check the kitten over to see that she was not harmed. They slept together and the strange thing was that the kitten was nursing Lucky. We thought it was dry nursing, but we took Lucky to the vet for her shots and told the vet about the kitten nursing Lucky. The vet squeezed Lucky's teats and milk came out.
Lucky and Princess (for that what we named the cat) had a long life together. They both passed away this last year.
Here is picture I took of them in their basket

(21,478 posts)My life would be unimaginably emptier without my dogs. Some gone tragically, all missed, and now Grindl is pushing 14 and not likely to be here next year. But we celebrate her life, and she is arthritic and diabetic, but still in search of the elusive treat.

(1,918 posts)Kind if reminds us people that we all want the same things, deep down. We shouldn't let our differences come in between what could be beautiful friendships and families.
