They were a big gift item last year but I haven't heard about them too much this year.

(20,277 posts)I don't drink a lot of soda, but when I want one it's easier to grab a couple of cans of Pepsi or Mountain Dew at the store.
I would rather have a bread machine.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)but I know so many people who got one of these machines last year. Wondered if they still used them.

(32,086 posts)If the price is right, I might nab one of them if I see one. I gave up soda this summer, too. I used to be a huge Diet Coke addict. And, seltzer water helped me me break my habit. I guess I just like the bubbles. Wouldn't mind having a Sodastream...
My kids are too. It sure is a lot cheaper than buying Pellegrino.

The Geneva Conventions specifically prohibit an occupying power (in this case, Israel) from profiting from land it occupies (in this case, Palestines West Bank). The International Court of Justice has also ruled that Israels settlements in the occupied Palestines West Bank are illegal.
In 2012, the Methodist and Presbyterian churches voted to boycott products made in illegal Israeli settlements including SodaStream. Stores in Europe, the United States, and elsewhere have pulled SodaStream from their shelves. Selling a product made in violation of International Law contradicts corporate responsibility and ethics policies that many stores have.
edit: Maybe someone makes a knockoff?

(32,822 posts)How much room do they take up? My counters all have low-hanging cabinets. A standard coffee maker barely fits under.
Is it really that less expensive? I can get generic pop for under CAN$1 for two litres.

(6,199 posts)if they have the standard fitting, and it's a lot cheaper. I pay $4 a refill and it lasts me 3-4 weeks. Sodastream uses a proprietary fitting. What brand is your machine?

(10,000 posts)She is an avid club soda drinker. She says her Soda Stream saves her a bundle. She also believes that it's the future of soda -- that soda is sold in syrup form in Europe (as opposed to bottles and cans), and that eventually, this is how Coke & Pepsi will be sold.
My opinion --as it is now, this only works if you a) like club soda (which she does), b) aren't picky about soda/drink store brands or c) drink Country Time lemonade or Kool Aid (which are available for the soda stream). As a Diet Coke addict, there is no way this thing will work for me.
Phentex

(41,990 posts)We got one of the first ones and use the hell out of it, but it's a big old industrial looking thing with glass bottles (best part) and moving parts that are giving out. I'll definitely get anew one. The new ones that use glass are pricey though.
