Junior Bonner is a film released in 1972 directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Steve McQueen,
Joe Don Baker, Robert Preston and Ida Lupino. The film focuses on a veteran rodeo rider as he
returns to his hometown of Prescott, Arizona to participate in an annual rodeo competition and
reunite with his brother and estranged parents. Many critics consider it to be the warmest and
most gentle of Sam Peckinpah's films.

Billy Jack is a "half-breed" American Navajo Indian[citation needed], a Green Beret Vietnam War veteran,
and a hapkido master. The character made his début in The Born Losers (1967), a "biker film" about a
motorcycle gang terrorizing a California town. Billy Jack rises to the occasion to defeat the gang when
defending a college student with evidence against them for gang rape.

OP
When I read your question, 'Junior Bonner' was the first one that leaped to mind.

That's a pretty terrible place to live, though. Just a few years ago a business section downtown had a local artist paint a mural descriptive of the local culture, and some white officials raised hell just because it depicted a Mexican kid!

(6,151 posts)3. Well, for me anywhere in the desert is hellish.
And I was stuck in AZ near Prescott for 8 years. Most of the people - except the arts community - are horribly right wing. They practically genuflect at the mention of Pig Boy. So I have some personal experience. Yours might be different. The best part about Prescott for me was the Pines Roadhouse on the far northside of town, where JD Simo used to hold court.
But don't get me started on the politics and police.
