Fuck Netflix...except when I can watch Dexter.

So, I know I'll have to wait.

(14,881 posts)and watched very little before that for so long, that for $6/month I'm happy with live streaming. I like watching doc marten and a couple other things, and am happy to find whatever else I can for entertainment.

(59,440 posts)Thank god for closed captions, otherwise I could never watch British series or movies
DebJ
(7,699 posts)we can no longer get our closed captioning to work after we switched to a new DVR
box with Comcast a few years ago. Well, I guess the reason might be
a learning disorder - technically challenged ...
We love Brit series but find ourselves constantly re-winding and trying to figure out what they are saying.
Same thing for me when I watch Grey's Anatomy and they are in surgery with the masks on ... I never
realized how much I rely on lip-reading while watching tv... some shows have too much volume on the
'background' music so that it overshadows the dialogue.

(56,829 posts)I tried Netflix free for a month and was underwhelmed, then signed up for amazon prime and was similarly underwhelmed with the selections.
I think it's great if you want to binge watch a trendy TV show, but you're not going to get any movies that were recently released on either. I like redbox because you can get the new releases pretty quickly, and I can watch a movie I missed in theaters. But, redbox is pretty limited overall.

(28,945 posts)We have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Between them we have an adequate selection, at least for our purposes.
graywarrior
(59,440 posts)Are they all the same price per month?

As for better, depends upon what you want.
Amazon Prime: Both film and TV, pretty much popular main stream stuff, not much rare and weird. Many can be streamed for free, downloaded for minimum price. More current comes with a reasonable price tag, seems to depend upon popularity. Can score some great bargains. Right now Prime has all The West Wing DVDs for $90 -- I am tempted.
Hulu: Film and TV. Big bennie, many current TV shows are next day streamed. Can't download. Much larger selection compared to Prime and some great blasts from the past, but truth be told a fair share of junk. On the other, it has the Criterion Collection, classic hard to find foreign films.

(28,945 posts)Off topic, but another thought about Prime
If you do a lot of on line ordering, especially from Amazon, it will pay back your fee and then some. Prime give free quick shipping on much of its stuff. The times I've had to deal with its customer service, it was excellent.

I found Covert Affairs, the Hobbit, Person of Interest, and a bunch of other things from their other country areas.
I gotta say, I like it a lot.

(12,679 posts)If we still did Netflix mailers, we could rent all sorts of movies that aren't on streaming. Kick Ass. Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. Any HBO tv series unless you also have a subscription to HBO through cable. Actually, you also can't get any of these on Hulu or Amazon streaming, and you have to pay extra for it individually or get a premium service.
Why would we have to wait for them to send a DVD, or pay extra for a premium service when all we want is a few movies during the year that may not be in the "this is what we recommend for you" list?
